MILWAUKEE - The Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) joins others in applauding today's appointment by HUD of Lourdes Castro Ramirez as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Public and Indian Housing (PIH).

Since 2009, Ms. Castro Ramirez has been President and CEO of the San Antonio Housing Authority. From 2006 to 2009, she served as Director of the Housing Choice Voucher program for the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA).

In making the announcement of the appointment, HUD Secretary Julian Castro said of Ramirez: "She is a talented and dedicated public servant with an extensive range of executive management, program and policy experiences needed to manage the array of PIH programs. It is the reason why the President nominated Lourdes to be Assistant Secretary and the reason that I know she'll be a great asset to the Department in her new role."

Ramirez has recently served as a board member of the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities (CLPHA). CLPHA Executive Director Sunia Zaterman said, "Lourdes has been a tremendous asset to the CLPHA Board and a recognized leader for her work at the San Antonio Housing Authority. While we will miss her contributions to our organizations, we look forward to working with her in her new, and very important, role at HUD."
