June 15, 2014 Westlawn Gardens, Milwaukee's leading sustainable neighborhood, recently received two new honors. In a ceremony during the 2014 Congress for New Urbanism in Buffalo, NY, on June 6th, the neighborhood was awarded a CNU Charter Award for Best Suburban Retrofit. The winners of the CNU Awards were selected by a very prestigious jury, including European sculptor and architect Rob Krier, modernist Arizona-based architect Will Bruder and CNU co-founder Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk. Winning projects are recognized for their excellence in fulfilling and advancing the principles of the Charter of the New Urbanism, which defines the essential qualities of walkable, sustainable places from the scale of the region down to the block and building. For more information about all of the honorees, visit the CNU website. During the annual conference of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association June 12 and 13 in Madison, WI, Westlawn Gardens was also honored with the Implementation Award. The award signifies excellence in planning implementation that accomplishes its objectives in a substantial, timely, and effective manner and represents best practices in the field of planning. ### |
