At an awards ceremony at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, The Business Journal named Olga Village as Milwaukee's Best New Residential Development or Renovation. Olga Village is a new residential, social services and health facility for seniors on the campus of Milwaukee’s United Community Center (UCC). The project is the result of an innovative partnership between the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) and the UCC.
The environmentally-sensitive complex includes a three-story apartment building with 37 rental units for low-income elderly persons and the UCC Senior Center at Olga Village, which provides a culturally-dynamic new home for elderly services in the neighborhood.  The complex’s presence on the UCC campus allows residents and other community members to live and participate in a dynamic, culturally-enriched, and bilingual environment that encourages them to stay engaged in community activities as they age in a mixed-income neighborhood setting.
With 200+ seniors and caregivers currently accessing the Senior Center each day, the new space and services will help to continue meeting evolving community needs for an expected 50% increase in senior program participation. The Senior Center and its services were developed in response to the daily interactions of UCC staff with campus and neighborhood residents, as well as research conducted by UCC to foster increased awareness and the creation of appropriate programs to better serve the Hispanic community. |
